October 2024 Price increase
Various items will be subject to price increases starting in October.
Postage rates will increase by up to 31%.
In food, many food items are subject to price increases, including chocolate confections and bottled coffee.
In the housing sector, “fire insurance premiums” will also be raised.
The major non-life insurance companies will raise rates by around 10% on average nationwide.
This is due to the recent spate of damage caused by frequent natural disasters and the rising cost of home repairs, which have led to an increase in insurance payouts.
In addition, the “water damage premium rate” for fire insurance, which has been uniform nationwide, will be subdivided into five categories as a result of this revision.
Divided into categories ranging from “1st class” with the lowest risk of water damage to “5th class” with the highest risk, fire insurance premiums may be higher for those living in high-risk areas.
The difference between the areas with the highest premiums and those with the lowest premiums, which may vary by insurance company, is 1.2 times the difference between the two.
“ Non-Life Insurance Premium Rate Calculation Organization of Japan You can search the website of the “Non-life Insurance Premium Rate Calculation Organization” to find out which category your area falls under.
Incidentally, the water disaster area in Sapporo Nishi Ward, where the company is headquartered, was “2nd class”!
This revision will apply to new fire insurance policies and renewals after October.
We encourage everyone to accurately assess the natural disaster risk in your area of residence and review your coverage.
